Pressure regulators are used for gases and liquids, as a control valve. The regulator can be an integrated device with a pressure setting, a restrictor/sensor in the body of the valve, or a separate entity with a pressure sensor, flow valve and a controller. The primary function of a pressure regulator is to match the flow of gas with the demand for gas which has been placed upon the regulator, whilst making sure that the output pressure is consistent.

Types of Pressure Regulators

  • Single Stage Regulator – With this type of regulator, high-pressure gas enters into the supply through the inlet valve to the body of the regulator. Then, the pressure rises and the inlet valve closes to stop any more gas entering the regulator.
  • Double Stage Regulator – A double stage regulator consists of two single stage regulators in one, which aims to reduce the pressure within the valve progressively. The first stage reduces the supply gas pressure to a medium level and passes it into the second stage.
