Pipe Velocity & Erosional Velocity Calculator

Work out how fast your fluid is actually travelling through a line, and compare it against the erosional velocity limit (API RP 14E) and typical service guidelines for liquids, gases and two-phase flow.

Method

Engineering note: Erosional velocity uses the API RP 14E form Ve = C / √ρ. The C-factor is empirical — RP 14E suggests C ≈ 100 (continuous) / 125 (intermittent) for solids-free service in US units; many operators use tuned values. This tool works in SI: Ve (m/s) = C_si / √ρ(kg/m³). The C values here are pre-converted equivalents and adjustable. Treat results as first-pass guidance.
Service guidelines: Typical comfort bands — liquid pump suction ≈ 0.6–1.5 m/s, discharge ≈ 1.5–4.5 m/s; gas lines ≈ 15–30 m/s. The erosional limit is the upper ceiling for erosive or two-phase duty, not a target.
